Join us in congratulating Sarah on her promotion to Directing Attorney!

Last month, Sarah Galvan took the reins at the National Center on Law and Elder Rights (NCLER) as Directing Attorney for Elder Rights. Previously, Sarah served as a Senior Staff Attorney for NCLER.

Sarah oversees all of NCLER’s training and education programs, and coordinates the project, which Justice in Aging administers under contract with the Administration for Community Living. NCLER serves as a resource center to the legal services and aging and disability communities on elder rights and priority legal issues. From the beginning of her time at Justice in Aging and NCLER, Sarah has leveraged her experience and perspective as a direct service civil legal aid attorney, leading to NCLER’s ground-breaking work on elder rights, legal services capacity building, and elder justice. NCLER was recently honored with the American Society on Aging’s (ASA) Gloria Cavanaugh Award for Excellence in Training and Education at the organization’s annual conference.

In this role, Sarah also directs the development and implementation of Justice in Aging’s elder justice training, technical assistance, and advocacy, including our current work supporting the Equal Justice Works Elder Justice Program. In leading our Elder Rights team, she will ensure that our work on elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation addresses the systemic and intersectional inequities faced by older adults of color, older women, LGBTQ older adults, older adults with disabilities, and older adults who are immigrants or have limited English proficiency.

We’re very proud to welcome Sarah to this new role.
