Everyone should have the right to be treated with respect by their doctors and receive the health care treatment they need without discrimination. Yet, 33% of transgender people who saw a health care provider over the past year were harassed or denied care.

This type of discrimination is illegal under the Health Care Rights Law enacted as part of the Affordable Care Act. Now the Trump Administration has proposed a regulation that undermines the law, rolls back explicit protections and says it’s ok for doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, and other health care providers to discriminate against transgender people. This rule will endanger the lives of transgender people—making it harder to get ALL forms of healthcare - from flu shots and physicals, to x-rays, cancer screenings and long-term care.
