Yesterday, Congress had bipartisan support for a funding bill that would extend and protect key aging services programs by including reauthorization of the Older Americans Act (OAA). Now, the House has released a year-end legislative package that leaves out the OAA. The OAA authorizes programs that are a lifeline and critical resource for nearly 11 million older adults and their family caregivers. OAA programs support the health, dignity, and independence of older adults, and include legal assistance, nutrition services, senior center programs, caregiver support and more. There is broad bipartisan support for OAA programs, and we need Congress to include OAA reauthorization as a part of the year-end legislative package in order to protect and extend these at-risk programs for older adults.
