The Republican tax bill is not done yet. The Senate passed its version of the bill early Saturday morning and now the House must either vote on the Senate’s bill, or the House and Senate must reconcile the differences between the bills before voting. This means there is still time to make your voices heard!
Call your Representative today and tell them to vote NO! 202-224-3121
This tax bill provides a huge tax cut to the wealthy and big corporations at the expense of the health and well-being of millions of people. Under this bill, 87 million middle- and working-class families will see their taxes rise by 2027. However, the top 0.1 percent would receive an average tax cut of $208,060. In addition, by repealing the individual mandate, the bill will drive up premiums and make health insurance more unaffordable, taking health care away from 13 million Americans, including older adults and people with disabilities who are enrolled in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
The $1.5 trillion deficit caused by this legislation will trigger automatic cuts to certain federal programs, including $400 billion from Medicare over the next decade. Republicans will also use this $1.5 trillion deficit as an excuse to attempt to make additional cuts to programs we all depend on, like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, housing assistance, and SNAP.
Tell your Representative that this bill is outrageous, and that you do not support taking money from critical programs that everyone needs to finance a tax cut for the very wealthy. Use our Fact Sheets to get more information on how this bill will harm older adults and threaten their health care.
