Support OAA Legal Services:
Call Your Representative TODAY!

We have an exciting and time-sensitive opportunity to advocate for increased funding for Older Americans Act (OAA) programs, including legal services. Your quick action is needed to share the word with your Representative.

What: Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) is leading an effort to request a funding increase for Older Americans Act (OAA) Title III programs in FY 2020. She is joined by Representatives Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Dave Loebsack (D-IA). Rep. Bonamici's bipartisan letter to the Appropriations Committee requests a significant increase in funding for OAA Title IIIB Supportive Services-the section that funds critical legal services for older adults across the country, as well as a broad range of home and community-based supportive services.

Why: We need more Representatives to sign on to this letter to drive attention to support OAA funding.

How: You can help. Urge your Representative to sign on to the bipartisan Bonamici OAA sign-on letter.

Here's how:

  1. Call your Representative's DC office and ask for the staff member who handles Older Americans Act or appropriations issues. You can connect through the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202.224.3121.
  2. Tell them about the Bipartisan Bonamici OAA Dear Colleague letter and offer to email them a link to the letter if they have not already seen it. If they already signed, thank them for their support!
  3. Let them know exactly why you want your Member to sign on to the OAA letter. If they ask for a staff contact for Rep. Bonamici, tell them to phone Jack Arriaga at 202.225.0855.

Legal services for older adults are part of the critical fabric of OAA Title III B Home and Community-Based Supportive Services that help older adults age in dignity, in their homes and communities.

Representatives must sign on by FRIDAY MARCH 22. Your swift action advocating for increased OAA funding can make a significant difference.

Thank you to the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) for leading the advocacy on this important OAA funding opportunity.
