Paintings by John
John and Sherry first connected over their shared love of art. John is a painter and he and his wife Sherry have always loved attending art shows in their Florida community, where they can connect with friends and fellow art lovers.
Sherry and John share another thing in common; they both have cerebral palsy, which makes it difficult for them to get around and do everyday household tasks. Their disabilities and limited income qualify them for in-home care through Medicaid. But their home state of Florida is failing to provide home-based care for John, Sherry, and 57,000 other older adults and people with disabilities.
John, Sherry, and so many others in Florida are waiting for the care they need at home because Florida refuses to follow federal law and prioritize funding for care at home. Some have been on this list for many years.
With your help, we’re fighting back. We filed a lawsuit against Florida to force the state to provide care where older adults want it – at home and in the community.
The long-term care system across the country is inadequate to meet the needs of our older adult population. People across the country are being forced into nursing facilities and away from their families and communities. We can do better.
